Planet Ridiculous

Here we go again….I found yet another article gushing with Tokyo love. Apparently the Tokyo vintage clothing market is the hottest in the world. Tokyo has become “Planet Vintage” because of the 400 plus shops scattered over the city and the superior quality of the clothing. The Paris and London vintage clothing market is no match for “Planet Vintage”

But is Tokyo really full of super hip vintage fashion and “quality” gear? Yes.

Is that a good thing? No.

Are all the clothes pretty much the same? Yes.

So….everybody is wearing the same thing? Yes!!!

Everyone in Tokyo is wearing the exact same vintage crap. Tokyo wants you to believe that old, tattered rags are fashionable. Welcome to Planet Ridiculous.

Tokyo is a city so obssessed with fashion that everyone forgot to make their own shit.  Just like most of the people who live there Tokyo fashion is not authentic. I know for a fact that most shop owners simply take a trip to California or New York, buy cheap clothing, and sell it for 3 to 4 times the price in Tokyo (Warning: don’t try to do this. You won’t make much money with one of these shops as 400 of them already exist) The clothing is so crappy and expensive that you might as well shop at Ralph Lauren, GAP, or Uniqlo because those are the only stores that sell decent clothing in all of Japan.

I used to wonder why Japanese females starve to live in New York City. At first I thought they just wanted a fantasy Sexy In The City lifestyle but now I realize that they just want to live a real life. They want to wear nice clothes and talk to real people (not many real people left in NYC now though….) I guess they are tired of living in Planet Ridiculous.  What do you think about Tokyo fashion? Are you lame enough to be into Planet Ridiculous fashion? And if you are, why?
